Dr. Laura Cutress

After completing my Ph.D, I came to the difficult decision that I did not want a career in academia. As much as I loved working with students and colleagues to solve problems, learn new skills and develop a persuasive argument, it wasn't where my heart lay. Over the course of 6 years I started a number of small businesses, and closed them down again. I was stuck in an uninspiring office job to make ends meet, doing freelance work on the side to help friends with their businesses.

One day it became abundantly clear - I loved the launch!

The design, inspiration and build is what got me excited! I adore the creative of design, ambition of strategy and ongoing challenge of the fast-moving digital world. I buckled up and turned my legal arguments into marketing copy, got certified by Google and learned HTML. In 2016, I quit my day job and jumped in feet first, and since then - it's been nothing but exhilarating.

I set up Anchor & Dash in order to help businesses flourish and support them in their digital marketing - my clients feel supported, inspired and confident that they have a creative, enthusiastic and passionate team behind them. I’ve spent the last 6 years working with a range of start-ups, solo-preneurs and multi-national organisations - copywriting, managing social media, building and designing websites, coordinating with advertisers and helping launch new brands through logo and brand design.

I love the ‘new’ business feeling, and have been involved with a variety of projects with clients including Boho Weddings, Simplified Accounting, Ebonie Allard, and The Sarah White Company. In addition, I am proud to have supported larger organisations such as The North Face, John Lewis Partnership and the Association of Mountaineering Instructors in their marketing needs.

Out of the office, you can find me renovating my Edwardian terrace in Sheffield, climbing in the Peak or running workshops across the country. I am proud to have built Anchor & Dash to be the company it is today, and thrilled to have a number of team-members on my side to help us grow.
